Antifungal activity of hydroxytyrosol enriched extracts from olive mill waste against Verticillium dahliae, the cause of Verticillium wilt of olive

چکیده
Verticillium wilt (caused by dahliae Kleb.) is an important disease affecting olive (Olea europaea L.) production. Effective control of this relies on integrated management strategies. In vitro antifungal activity two hydroxytyrosol (HTyr) enriched extracts (HTE1 and HTE2) obtained from mill waste products (OMWP) was assessed against V. dahliae. Inhibitory effects pure HTyr as a standard, HTE1 HTE2 at different concentrations, were evaluated mycelium growth conidium germination Chemical characterization allowed identification quantification the main constituent in both along with other low molecular weight phenols. showed higher inhibitory At tested observed. After 3 d, 1 mg mL-1 gave greater inhibition than or HTyr. 24 h, 55% germination, 37% inhibition. This study has demonstrated that phenolic compounds derived OMWP have dahliae, indicating potential these for eco-friendly wilt.

Starch Hydrolysis and Vessel Occlusion Related to Wilt Symptoms in Olive Stems of Susceptible Cultivars Infected by Verticillium dahliae
This study investigated starch content, amount of pathogen DNA and density of occluded vessels in healthy and Verticillium dahliae infected olive shoots and stems. Starch hydrolysis is considered a mechanism to refill xylem vessels that suffered cavitation by either, drought conditions or pathogen infections. The main objective of this work was to evaluate this mechanism in olive plants subject...
متن کاملEvaluation of the antifungal activity of olive leaf aqueous extracts against Candida albicans PTCC-5027
In this study, antifungal property of olive leaf extracts against Candida albicans PTCC-5027 was examined. Fresh olive leaf extracts were prepared using distilled water in a Soxhlet apparatus. The antifungal activity of the extract was analyzed by measuring the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum fungicidal concentration (MFC), using the microdilution test and disc diffusion assa...
متن کاملSoil Temperature Determines the Reaction of Olive Cultivars to Verticillium dahliae Pathotypes
BACKGROUND Development of Verticillium wilt in olive, caused by the soil-borne fungus Verticillium dahliae, can be influenced by biotic and environmental factors. In this study we modeled i) the combined effects of biotic factors (i.e., pathotype virulence and cultivar susceptibility) and abiotic factors (i.e., soil temperature) on disease development and ii) the relationship between disease se...
متن کاملa study of the changes in total phenol content in olive cultivars during the interaction between verticillium wilt verticillium dahliae and root-knot nematode meloidogyne javanica
one-year-old seedlings of olive cultivars, zard, roghani, koroneiki and manzanilla, were transplanted to different sets of pots each pot containing 2000g of sterilized sandy loam soil. the experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design of 32 treatments, each in five replications. treatments were comprised of: control, mere nematode, mere fungus, and fungus+nematode. pots were inocul...
متن کاملEffect of soilless growing systems on the spread of Verticillium dahliae and the severity of the Verticillium wilt in strawberry
The dispersion of soilborne plant pathogens could be greater in closed soilless growing systems than in open ones. The effect of three soilless growing systems (open, closed and closed with slow sand filtration) on the dispersion of Verticillium dahliae propagules and the severity of the disease in strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.) has been analysed. V. dahliae dispersion in a closed syste...
