چکیده
Finding new materials with antiferromagnetic (AFM) Kitaev interaction is an urgent issue to broaden and enrich the quantum magnetism research significantly. By carrying out inelastic neutron scattering experiments subsequent analysis, we conclude that Na$_3$Co$_2$SbO$_6$ Na$_2$Co$_2$TeO$_6$ are honeycomb cobalt-based AFM systems. The spin-orbit excitons at 20-28~meV in both compounds strongly supports idea Co$^{2+}$ ions of have a spin-orbital entangled $J_\rm{eff}=1/2$ state. Furthermore, found generalized Kitaev-Heisenberg Hamiltonian can well describe spin-wave excitations additional 3rd nearest-neighbor interaction. Our best-fit parameters show large terms off-diagonal symmetric anisotropy similar magnitude compounds. We should stress our parameters' optimized magnetic structures consistent reported from diffraction studies. Moreover, there also magnon-damping effect higher energy part spin waves, as usually observed other magnets. demonstrate first experimental realization magnets based on systematic studies waves analysis.

Kitaev honeycomb and other exotic spin models with polar molecules
We show that ultracold polar molecules pinned in an optical lattice can be used to access a variety of exotic spin models, including the Kitaev honeycomb model. Treating each molecule as a rigid rotor, we use DC electric and microwave fields to define superpositions of rotational levels as effective spin degrees of freedom, while dipole-dipole interactions give rise to interactions between the ...
متن کاملNonlinear acoustics and honeycomb materials
The scope of research activity that Bruce Thompson embraced was very large. In this talk three different research topics that the author shared with Bruce are reviewed. They represent Bruce’s introduction to NDE and include nonlinear acoustics, nondestructive measurements of adhesive bond strengths in honeycomb panels, and studies of flexural wave dispersion in honeycomb materials. In the first...
متن کاملKitaev exchange and field-induced quantum spin-liquid states in honeycomb α-RuCl3
Large anisotropic exchange in 5d and 4d oxides and halides open the door to new types of magnetic ground states and excitations, inconceivable a decade ago. A prominent case is the Kitaev spin liquid, host of remarkable properties such as protection of quantum information and the emergence of Majorana fermions. Here we discuss the promise for spin-liquid behavior in the 4d5 honeycomb halide α-R...
متن کاملThe vicinity of hyper-honeycomb β-Li2IrO3 to a three-dimensional Kitaev spin liquid state
Due to the combination of a substantial spin-orbit coupling and correlation effects, iridium oxides hold a prominent place in the search for novel quantum states of matter, including, e.g., Kitaev spin liquids and topological Weyl states. We establish the promise of the very recently synthesized hyper-honeycomb iridate β-Li2IrO3 in this regard. A detailed theoretical analysis reveals the presen...
متن کاملTopological triple-vortex lattice stabilized by mixed frustration in expanded honeycomb Kitaev-Heisenberg model
The expanded classical Kitaev-Heisenberg model on a honeycomb lattice is investigated with the next-nearest-neighboring Heisenberg interaction considered. The simulation shows a rich phase diagram with periodic behavior in a wide parameter range. Beside the double 120° ordered phase, an inhomogeneous phase is uncovered to exhibit a topological triple-vortex lattice, corresponding to the hexagon...
