Antidepressant Activity of Curcuma heyneana

BACKGROUND: The resistance to depression therapy remains high, and failure leads suicide. Curcuma heyneana (C. heyneana) is a plant of Zingiberaceae. Conventionally, the rhizome has been used as an anxiolytic sedative. However, activity antidepression never conducted. AIM: Therefore, this research was aimed investigate antidepressant C. rhizome. METHODS: This conducted using male mice aged 2–3 months. Chronic mild stress for 14 days induce depression, followed by administration extract at 50, 100, 200 mg/kg 10 days. Evaluation carried out tail suspension test (TST), forced swim (FST), open field (OFT), blood glucose injury gastric. Sertraline dose 6.5 positive control. RESULTS: result revealed that induction causes decreasing in locomotor increased immobility. doses 100 showed activity, which can be seen from elevation central square cross OFT (p < 0.05). also decreased immobility FSTs Furthermore, prevents increases gastric irritation. CONCLUSION: Extract increasing time, preventing injury.
