Antibacterial Potential of Seagrass Cymodocea Rotundata (Alismatales: Cymodoceaceae) Extract on The Pathogenic Bacteria Staphylococcus Aureus

Staphylococcus aureus is classified as a pathogenic bacterium in humans and animals. S. infection can cause skin infections, produce toxins that result shock syndrome, foodborne disease, bacteremia, endocarditis, metastatic sepsis, while milk-producing animals it mastitis infection. Initially, be overcome with penicillin antibiotics but often develops time becomes resistant to new namely the Methicilin Resistant (MRSA) which was first reported 1961. One of natural ingredients from sea has antibacterial content seagrass or Cymodocea rotundata. Which one type Indonesia included round grass. rotundata bioactive components such alkaloids, flavonoids, phenol hydroquinone, steroids, triterpenoids, tannins, saponins function antibacterials. This study aims determine potential an against bacteria. research experimental using wells. Samples came coastal waters Ketapang were converted into simplified powder form ethanol solvent. The results showed diameter inhibition zone formed ranged 5.5 mm - 9.7 mm, largest 40% treatment. Based on this research, concluded extraction benefits field pharmacology.
