A modified test for Brucella agglutinins.

0.1% Protamine sulphate in normal (0.85% w/v) saline has been used as a diluent in Brucella serology instead of saline as such. The use of protamine sulphate in this concentration has obviated the need for performing the modified Coombs test to detect non-agglutinating Brucella antibodies. This method has been used in the Microbiological Diagnostic Unit of the University of Melbourne in the rou...

Investigation for background prevalence of Brucella agglutinins among blood donors.

The exponential character of turbidity increase was less sensitive yet a more speciÞ c screening criterion, thus it is suitable for preliminary conÞ rmation of signiÞ cant bacteriuria. The non-speciÞ ed turbidity increase estimation2 has a high negative predictive value and is suitable (just like the biochemical screening)1,3 for pr...

Brucella abortus agglutinins in the sera of pregnant women and blood donors.

The incidence of brucellosis in the human population of England and Wales is still not accurately known, although estimates have been made (Wilson, 1932; Dalrymple-Champneys, 1950). Few persons who acquire Br. abortus develop any obvious clinical disease, but the existence of Br. abortus agglutinins in blood sera indicates past exposure to the organism. A survey of human and animal brucellosis ...

Anti-i cold agglutinins in choriocarcinomatosis: trophoblastic i antigen.

The fetal antigen i has been demonstrated by indirect immunofluorescence on cord erythrocytes and placental trophoblast. A patient with disseminated choriocarcinoma developed high-tire anti-i cold agglutinins, and minor elevation of anti-i titres was seen in four out of six further patients with treated choriocarcinoma. In normal pregnant women, 6% showed similar increases in anti-i titres.

Low Prevalence of Brucella agglutinins in Blood Donors in Central Province of Iran

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Brucellosis is a zoonotic disease of worldwide distribution and has great economic importance. Despite its control in many countries, it remains endemic in Iran.
