Anti-Bacterial Activity of Novel Synthesized Chalcone Against S. epidermidis and S. aureus Isolated from Packed Red Cell Blood Product

Bacterial contamination in blood product was still a problem Indonesia. Various studies to improve the safety of by inhibiting bacterial growth developed. Chalcone, is one natural compounds that has ability inhibit growth, so it can be possible use compound for anti-bacterial future. This study aim evaluate activity novel synthesis chalcone (E)-1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-3-phenylprop-2-en-1-one against S. epidermidis and aureus isolated from packed red cell product. A synthesized Claisen-Schmidt Methods while test done Agar Diffusion Methods. Chalcone been then characterized Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). through condensation reaction between an aldehyde (benzaldehyde) ketone (acetophenone) with NaOH as alkaline catalyst. The results sedimentary analysis using FTIR showed absorption C=C group typical medium compounds, at wave number 1516.96 cm-1. GC-MS characterization resulted GC chromatogram peak time retention (tR) 19.68 minutes relative purity 100%. MS mass spectrum shows molecular ion (M+) this detected 224 which equivalents weight compound. Anti-bacterial synthetic 5% concentration had inhibitory 56.02% on 54.10% aureus, 2.5% 29.17% 50.45% 1.25% 0% 37.27% aureus.
