Anthropogenic resistance: accounting for human behavior in wildlife connectivity planning

چکیده

Maintaining or restoring connectivity among wildlife populations is a primary strategy to overcome the negative impacts of habitat fragmentation. Yet, current planning efforts typically assess landscape resistance, ability organisms cross various biophysical elements in landscape, while overlooking ways which human behaviors influence connectivity. Here, we introduce concept “anthropogenic resistance” capture on species' movement through landscape. We discuss psychological and socioeconomic factors that degree anthropogenic such as economic value risks posed by species, suggest methods estimate include resistance analyses. Finally, highlight how addressing social-ecological perspective can lead better outcomes for both humans wildlife. call multidisciplinary approaches ensure functionality landscapes sustainability long term. Human land use infrastructure have transformed most across globe, diminishing fragmenting habitats.1Tilman D. Clark M. Williams D.R. Kimmel K. Polasky S. Packer C. Accounting for Corporate Behavior

T he year 2002 was one of great tumult for the American corporation. As the year began, news of accounting irregularities at energy giant Enron was unfolding at a rapid pace. These revelations would ultimately lead to the demise of that firm and its auditor Arthur Andersen. But Enron was not an isolated case, as other accounting scandals soon followed at WorldCom and Global Crossing in the tele...

Participatory planning of interventions to mitigate human-wildlife conflicts.

Conservation of wildlife is especially challenging when the targeted species damage crops or livestock, attack humans, or take fish or game. Affected communities may retaliate and destroy wildlife or their habitats. We summarize recommendations from the literature for 13 distinct types of interventions to mitigate these human-wildlife conflicts. We classified eight types as direct (reducing the...

Assessment and Spatial Planning of Landscape Ecological Connectivity for Biodiversity Management (Case Study: Qazvin Province)

Habitat and ecosystem fragmentation and, consequently, the loss of landscape connectivity are major causes of biodiversity destruction, leading to disruption of material, energy, and information flow at the landscape scale. Resistance-Surface-Based Wildlife Conservation Connectivity Modeling: Summary of Efforts in the United States and Guide for Practitioners

Resistance-surface-based connectivity modeling has become a widespread tool for conservation planning. The current ease with which connectivity models can be created, however, masks the numerous untested assumptions underlying both the rules that produce the resistance surface and the algorithms used to locate low-cost paths across the target landscape. Here we present a process to guide map cr...
