Anchor geotechnics for floating offshore wind: Current technologies and future innovations

نویسندگان

چکیده

A rapid expansion of the anchor market is required to meet increasing demand for floating offshore wind. This paper, which aimed at a broad readership within and beyond geotechnical engineering, summarises current state-of-the-art discusses future developments types design methods. Current technologies are presented via comparative analytical assessments performance across range practical scales seabed conditions. analysis demonstrates relative merits different types, using simplified cost-performance indicators each technology. An example outcome large differences in efficiency (capacity per unit weight), that linked ways anchors achieve their holding capacity. Potential improvements performance-cost response type, through enhancements, then explored. These enhancements categorised as (1) unlocking higher improved methods with better understanding response, (2) upscaling or (3) commoditising by making larger versions enabling more efficient mass production installation, (4) invention new technologies. Finally, findings sections summarised single table enable quick selection anchoring solutions.

Potential for Floating Offshore Wind Energy in Japanese Waters

The prospects for large scale commercialisation of sea-bedmounted offshore windfarms are currently excellent, with the existing small-scale prototype windfarms currently being joined by the first large-scale parks in the shallow seas off the Danish, German, Swedish, Dutch, Belgian, British and Irish coasts. However other countries, including Japan, have much more limited regions of the shallow ...

SHM of Floating Offshore Wind Turbines— Challenges and First Solutions

The paper presents an integrated SHM-system for floater, moorings, tower, nacelle and rotor blades. Its core is based on a multivariate SHM-system for rotor blades with three different measuring techniques accompanied by appropriate signal processing approaches:  Acoustic Emission (AE) is used for identification of relative small damages at the whole blade, e.g. bursts of fibres, cracks of bon...

On the Modeling of Spar-type Floating Offshore Wind Turbines

In this paper an overview about floating offshore wind turbines (FOWT) including operating conditions, property and applicability of the barge, tension-leg, and spar floating platforms is described. The spar-floating offshore wind turbines (S-FOWT) have advantages in deepwater and their preliminary design, numerical modeling tools and integrated modeling are reviewed. Important conclusions abou...

Unsteady aerodynamic analysis for offshore floating wind turbines under different wind conditions.

A free-vortex wake (FVW) model is developed in this paper to analyse the unsteady aerodynamic performance of offshore floating wind turbines. A time-marching algorithm of third-order accuracy is applied in the FVW model. Owing to the complex floating platform motions, the blade inflow conditions and the positions of initial points of vortex filaments, which are different from the fixed wind tur...

Corrosion Protection Systems and Fatigue Corrosion in Offshore Wind Structures: Current Status and Future Perspectives

Concerns over reducing CO2 emissions associated with the burning of fossil fuels in combination with an increase in worldwide energy demands is leading to increased development of renewable energies such as wind. The installation of offshore wind power structures (OWS) is one of the most promising approaches for the production of renewable energy. However, corrosion and fatigue damage in marine...
