Anatomy and phylogenetic relationships of Temnodontosaurus zetlandicus (Reptilia: Ichthyosauria)

چکیده
Abstract Parvipelvia is a major clade of ichthyosaurians that diversified during the Triassic-Jurassic transition. The interrelationships early parvipelvians remain unclear and many genera are loosely diagnosed, such as Temnodontosaurus, an ecologically important genus from Early Jurassic Western Europe. One taxon concentrates taxonomic issues: ‘Ichthyosaurus’ acutirostris was previously assigned to Temnodontosaurus for which zetlandicus represents junior synonym. We redescribe holotype (CAMSM J35176) new specimen probably attributable this (MNHNL TU885) Toarcian Luxembourg. find comb. nov. valid species should be referred sharing number traits with nuertingensis trigonodon, despite having distinct cranial architecture. Our phylogenetic analyses under both implied weighting maximum parsimony Bayesian inference recover T. closely related several currently Temnodontosaurus. Species included in form polyphyletic yet well-clustered group among basal neoichthyosaurians, demonstrating monophyly needs thoroughly investigated.

The phylogenetic definition of reptilia.
Naming taxa is an important endeavor in the documentation of life by systematists, whether it is conducted in the context of traditional rank-based classification or within a phylogenetic framework. Proponents of the phylogenetic approach distinguish between the diagnosis of a group and its definition (Ghiselin, 1984; Rowe, 1987, 1988), and this distinction forms the basis for a phylogeneticall...
متن کاملPhylogenetic Relationships of the Large-Bodied Members of the African Lizard Genus Pachydactylus (Reptilia: Gekkonidae)
Evolutionary relationships among large-bodied species in the gekkonid genus Pachydactylus were investigated using mtDNA sequences from the cytochrome b and 16S ribosomal RNA genes. We combined these data in parsimony and maximum likelihood analyses to address several systematic issues regarding the eight largebodied taxa, including their phylogenetic position in Pachydactylus as a whole. The la...

– Based on variation in 1094 bp of the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene among members of the genus Indotestudo from southern Asia (I. elongata), south-western India (I. travancorica), and eastern Indonesia (I. forstenii), I. travancorica is most similar genetically to I. elongata (3.7% divergence), and strongly divergent from I. forstenii (5.5 to 5.9%). Individuals of I. forstenii with and witho...
متن کاملon translation of phatic communion and socio-cultural relationships between the characters of the novels
phatic communion is a cultural concept which differs across cultures. according to hofstede (2001), the u.s. tends to have individualistic culture; however, asian countries tend to have collectivistic cultures. these cultures view phatic communion differently. in individualistic cultures like u.s., phatic communion reflects speakers’ socio-cultural relationships in conversations. to see whether...
