Analyzing the Sintering Kinetics of Ti12.5Ta12.5Nb Alloy Produced by Powder Metallurgy

The focus of this work is to analyze the sintering kinetics Ti12.5Ta12.5Nb alloy by dilatometry. mixture powders was achieved mixing individual Ti, Ta and Nb, which were then axially pressed. Sintering performed at 1260 °C using different heating rates. microstructure determined X-ray diffraction scanning electron microscopy. Results show that densification solid state diffusion relative density increased as rate slow. Due full solubility Nb in reached up 93% for all samples. Activation energy estimated from it two main mechanisms predominant: grain boundary lattice self-diffusion. This suggests did not affect atomic form necks between particles. shows a combination α, β α′, α″ martensitic phases result into Ti unit cell. It concluded plays major role during sintering, affects resulting microstructure.
