Analytical Approximations of Well Function by Solving the Governing Differential Equation Representing Unsteady Groundwater Flow in a Confined Aquifer

چکیده
A solution of the governing equation representing drawdown in a horizontal confined aquifer, where groundwater flow is unsteady, was first provided by Theis and famously known as solution. This given terms an exponential integral, also called well function, for which simple reliable approximations are preferred due to their practical applications. To that end, several available literature, some based on series others numerical approximations. study employs three kinds homotopy-based methods, namely homotopy analysis method (HAM), perturbation (HPM), optimal asymptotic (OHAM), analytically solving partial differential (PDE). For convenience, PDE converted boundary value problem (BVP) using similarity transformation. Comparing obtained these methods with solution, it found 10th-order HAM, just OHAM-based solutions, provide accurate On other hand, HPM-based be only within small domain. Further, proposed compared literature percentage error. The methodology provides function directly general framework thus can adapted situations arising flow.

Flow in the neighborhood of a confined aquifer observation well
An analytical solution for flow in the vicinity of an observation well is developed. The observation is emplaced in a homogeneous aquifer of infinite radial extent that is pumped at a constant rate, and satisfies the Theis solution. We attempt to account for the effect of an observation well on the drawdown response in a neighborhood of finite radial extent centered around the well. The model o...
متن کاملHomotopy Analysis Method for Solving the Equation Governing the Unsteady Flow of a Polytropic Gas
In this paper, an application of Homotopy Analysis Method (HAM) is applied to solve the equation governing the unsteady flow of a polytropic gas. Comparison are made between the Adomian decomposition method and homotopy analysis method. The results reveal that the homotopy analysis method is very effective and simp le and gives the exact solution. Classification 2000 MSC: 34K28 • 35G25 • 34K17

متن کاملA two-dimensional analytical solution for groundwater flow in a leaky confined aquifer system near open tidal water
Groundwater in coastal areas is commonly disturbed by tidal fluctuations. A two-dimensional analytical solution is derived to describe the groundwater fluctuation in a leaky confined aquifer system near open tidal water under the assumption that the groundwater head in the confined aquifer fluctuates in response to sea tide whereas that of the overlying unconfined aquifer remains constant. The ...
متن کاملAn analytical solution of groundwater response to tidal fluctuation in a leaky confined aquifer
An analytical solution is derived to investigate the influence of leakage on tidal response in a coastal leaky confined aquifer system. The analytical solution developed here is more general than the traditional solution obtained by Ferris [1951], which can be regarded as a special case of the solution presented in this paper. This solution is based on a conceptual model under the assumption th...
