Analysis of presentation, etiology, management and outcome of perforation peritonitis in a tertiary care centre

Background: The most common surgical emergency in general surgery is perforation peritonitis. It a serious condition with mortality rate of up to 20%, and it the third cause abdomen after appendicitis intestinal obstruction. aim this study discuss presentation, etiology, management outcome peritonitis our hospital. Methods: 60 patients features admitted from September 2021 August 2022 department surgery, PMCH, Patna were chosen. Descriptive statistics was used for analysis. Detailed history taken, physical examination X-ray done. Signs symptoms, duration illness, age intra-op findings regarding size location, its management, post-op complications documented. Results: Total cases included study, among that 80% (48) males 20% (12) females, male female ratio 4:1. Pain universal symptom. Generalized pain seen 54 (90%) cases, followed by lower quadrant 3 (5%) epigastrium (5%). Radiation right iliac fossa 6 (10%). Blunt injury 9 (15%) case. 14 treated anti-ulcer medications. Three duodenal ulcer nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Liver dullness obliterated 28 (47%). Bowel sounds either sluggish or absent cases. Conclusions: Perforation frequently encountered emergency. Various factors like age, sex, duration, site perforation, extent delay intervention are associated morbidity mortality. A successful depends upon early intervention, source control exclusive intraoperative peritoneal lavage.
