Analysis of a No-Insulation HTS Pancake Coil Including Multiple Resistive Joints

One of the technical issues in application High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) tapes to magnet technology is need wind long tape sections with uniform electric properties along length. It has been reported that a No-Insulation (NI) coil can properly work even presence defective super-conductive regions, minimal drop performance as com-pared its “defect-free” counterpart. This could open up possibility manufacturing coils by jointing together several segments limited length, lowering conductor cost. In this work, single pancake NI HTS wound using cut from same lot, jointed together. The electrical resistance each joint set independently, realizing either high or low joints. Thus, designed include multiple at specific locations. refrigerated conduction-cooling, and tested different temperatures charging rates. instrumentation allows measuring voltage over whole winding, well magnetic field central bore. measurements are used study defect-irrelevant behavior coil. A simple equivalent lumped parameter circuit applied derive effective parameters analyze electromagnetic behaviour.
