چکیده
Chocó-Darien is an important biogeographic realm, as it a terrestrial biodiversity hotspot and the southern limit of Caribbean reefs. However, to date there are no compiled data on reef fish assemblage this region. We provide updated checklist marine fishes from system (Colombia), with comments their geographic distribution conservation status. Peer-reviewed studies, unpublished in situ visual censuses were surveyed compose checklist. A total 212 species across 57 families compiled, eight which had previously published records, one (Trachinotus falcatus) recorded for first time. The most speciose Labridae (n = 21), Gobiidae 18) Serranidae 17). Fourteen threatened recorded, including critically endangered (Epinephelus striatus) two (Balistes vetula Scarus coelestinus). This study contributes fill knowledge gaps diversity raises concern spread lionfish invasion into Chocó-Darién system.

Island biogeography of Caribbean coral reef fish
Aim The goal of our study was to test fundamental predictions of biogeographical theories in tropical reef fish assemblages, in particular relationships between fish species richness and island area, isolation and oceanographic variables (temperature and productivity) in the insular Caribbean. These analyses complement an analogous and more voluminous body of work from the tropical Indo-Pacific...
متن کاملInvasive Lionfish Drive Atlantic Coral Reef Fish Declines
Indo-Pacific lionfish (Pterois volitans and P. miles) have spread swiftly across the Western Atlantic, producing a marine predator invasion of unparalleled speed and magnitude. There is growing concern that lionfish will affect the structure and function of invaded marine ecosystems, however detrimental impacts on natural communities have yet to be measured. Here we document the response of nat...
متن کاملMangroves Enhance Reef Fish Abundance at the Caribbean Regional Scale
Several studies conducted at the scale of islands, or small sections of continental coastlines, have suggested that mangrove habitats serve to enhance fish abundances on coral reefs, mainly by providing nursery grounds for several ontogenetically-migrating species. However, evidence of such enhancement at a regional scale has not been reported, and recently, some researchers have questioned the...
متن کاملInvasive lionfish had no measurable effect on prey fish community structure across the Belizean Barrier Reef
Invasive lionfish are assumed to significantly affect Caribbean reef fish communities. However, evidence of lionfish effects on native reef fishes is based on uncontrolled observational studies or small-scale, unrepresentative experiments, with findings ranging from no effect to large effects on prey density and richness. Moreover, whether lionfish affect populations and communities of native r...
متن کاملSimplification of Caribbean Reef-Fish Assemblages over Decades of Coral Reef Degradation
Caribbean coral reefs are becoming structurally simpler, largely due to human impacts. The consequences of this trend for reef-associated communities are currently unclear, but expected to be profound. Here, we assess whether changes in fish assemblages have been non-random over several decades of declining reef structure. More specifically, we predicted that species that depend exclusively on ...
