چکیده

The frequency and severity of large, destructive fires have increased in the recent past, with extended impacts on landscape, human population, ecosystems. Earth observations provide a means for frequent, wide coverage accurate monitoring fire impacts. This study describes an unsupervised approach mapping burned areas from Sentinel-2 satellite imagery, which is based multispectral thresholding, introduces adaptive thresholding method. It takes into account localized variability spectral responses two-phase approach. first phase detects that are high probability, while second adaptively adjusts this preliminary by expanding refining its boundaries. resulting classification contains two main classes interest: unburned. latter further classified four (4) impact classes, according to Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS) NASA United States Geological Survey (USGS)’s widely acknowledged nomenclature examples. Three distinct wildfire events assessed, occurred during summers 2020 2021 Greece Portugal. accuracy calculated juxtaposing outputs area validation maps created through photointerpretation very high-resolution (VHR) imagery. corresponding CEMS On-Demand Mapping products also juxtaposed against comparison purposes. assessment showcases closely follows capacity provided (e.g., kappa coefficient—k—of proposed 0.91, 0.83 processed, achieve k 0.94, 0.93 0.8, respectively). considers affected areas’ response; thus, it generalizes well different areas, e.g., characterized land cover types. seems offer effective wildfire-induced changes, can be incorporated used forest management services decision support systems complementary maps.

Burned Area Mapping in Greece Using SPOT-4 HRVIR Images and Object-Based Image Analysis

The devastating series of fire events that occurred during the summers of 2007 and 2009 in Greece made evident the need for an operational mechanism to map burned areas in an accurate and timely fashion to be developed. In this work, Système pour l’Observation de la Terre (SPOT)-4 HRVIR images are introduced in an object-based classification environment in order to develop a classification proc...

Mapping burned area in Alaska using MODIS data: a data limitations-driven modification to the regional burned area algorithm

With the recently observed and projected trends of growing wildland fire occurrence in high northern latitudes, satellite-based burned area mapping in these regions is becoming increasingly important for scientific and fire management communities. Coarseand moderate-resolution remotely sensed data products are the only viable source of comprehensive and timely estimates of burned area in remote...

An unsupervised sonar images segmentation approach

Abstract: In this work an unsupervised Sonar (Sound navigation and ranging) images segmentation is proposed. Due to the textural nature of the Sonar images, a band-pass filtering that takes into account the local spatial frequency of these images is proposed. Sonar image is passed through a bank of Gabor filters and the filtered images that possess a significant component of the original image ...

Volumetric soil moisture estimation using Sentinel 1 and 2 satellite images

Surface soil moisture is an important variable that plays a crucial role in the management of water and soil resources. Estimating this parameter is one of the important applications of remote sensing. One of the remote sensing techniques for precise estimation of this parameter is data-driven models. In this study, volumetric soil moisture content was estimated using data-driven models, suppor...

Sentinel Node Mapping in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Using an Intraoperative Radiotracer Technique

Objective(s): Lymph node metastases are the most significant prognostic factor in localized non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Identification of the first nodal drainage site (sentinel node) may improve detection of metastatic nodes. Extended surgeries, such as lobectomy or pneumonectomy with lymph node dissection, are among the therapeutic options of higher acceptab...
