An Unfitted Method with Elastic Bed Boundary Conditions for the Analysis of Heterogeneous Arterial Sections

This manuscript presents a novel formulation for linear elastic model of heterogeneous arterial section undergoing uniform pressure in quasi-static regime. The novelties are twofold. First, an bed support on the external boundary (elastic condition) replaces classical Dirichlet condition (i.e., blocking displacements at arbitrarily selected nodes) solids to ensure solvable problem. In addition, this modeling approach can be used effectively account effect surrounding material vessel. Secondly, study many geometrical configurations corresponding different patients, we devise unfitted strategy based Immersed Boundary (IB) framework. It allows using same (background) mesh all possible both describe features cross-section (using level sets) and compute solution mechanical Results coronary sections from realistic segmented images demonstrate that proposed IB-based provides results equivalent standard finite elements (FE) number active degrees freedom with average difference displacement field less than 0.5%. However, methodology does not require use every configuration. Thus, it is paving way dimensionality reduction.
