چکیده
A chemical-based insect repellent such as N, N-diethyl-3-methylbenzamide (DEET) is commonly used against all insects despite its toxicity in humans. Hence, a agent from natural sources of plant essential oil was introduced. Some the plants which have potential are catnip, hairy basil, citronella, vetiver, clove, and citrus. Citronellal, citronellol, geraniol, eugenol, eugenol-acetate, beta-caryophyllene among active components these plants. Citrus hystrix (kaffir lime) known for several applications food, health, skincare, but mosquito still new. This overview paper highlights kaffir lime encapsulation related to repellent. Several studies on conducted revealed that major citronellol limonene. Pure provides one-hour protection mosquito. However, an addition 5% vanillin prolongs time three hours. Essential easily vaporized at room temperature shortens effectiveness time. Encapsulation would control vaporization process hence prolong efficiency. Nonetheless, almost no research work reported release mechanism encapsulated lime.

Repellent effect of microencapsulated essential oil in lotion formulation against mosquito bites.
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Many essential oils have been reported as natural sources of insect repellents; however, due to high volatility, they present low repellent effect. Formulation technique by using microencapsulation enables to control the volatility of essential oil and thereby extends the duration of repellency. In this study, the effectiveness of microencapsulated essential oils of Alpi...

Volatile oils extracted by steam distillation from four plant species turmeric (Curcuma longa), kaffir lime (Citrus hystrix), citronella grass (Cymbopogon winterianus) and hairy basil (Ocimum americanum)), were evaluated in mosquito cages and in a large room for their repellency effects against three mosquito vectors, Aedes aegypti, Anopheles dirus and Culex quinquefasciatus. The oils from turm...
متن کاملConstituents of the Essential Oil of Suregada zanzibariensis Leaves are Repellent to the Mosquito, Anopheles gambiae s.s.
In traditional African communities, repellent volatiles from certain plants generated by direct burning or by thermal expulsion have played an important role in protecting households against vectors of malaria and other diseases. Previous research on volatile constituents of plants has shown that some are good sources of potent mosquito repellents. In this bioprospecting initiative, the essenti...
