An Overview of Methods for L-Dopa Extraction and Analytical Determination in Plant Matrices

L-dopa is a precursor of dopamine used as the most effective symptomatic drug treatment for Parkinson’s disease. Most isolated either synthesized chemically or from natural sources, but only some plants belonging to Fabaceae family contain significant amounts L-dopa. Due its low stability, unambiguous determination in plant matrices requires appropriate technologies. Several analytical methods have been developed different plants. The quantification are mainly based on capillary electrophoresis chromatographic methods, i.e., high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), coupled ultraviolet-visible mass spectrometric detection. HPLC often used. This paper aims give information latest developments chemical study L-dopa, emphasizing extraction, separation and characterization this compound by chromatographic, electrochemical spectral techniques. can help select best possible strategy determining using advanced methods.
