An Overview of Chemical Oxidation Based Remediation technologies for Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids Removal from Soil

چکیده

This review provides a general overview of the application chemical oxidation to hydrophobic contaminants in form non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPLs). Three types processes, conventional activated persulfate, permanganate, and ozonation, along with three advanced processes (AOPs), Fenton process, photocatalysis, plasma are presented discussed. In addition, this paper brief insight into combination other remediation technologies for efficient removal NAPLs. The common wide use persulfate soil is hindered by fact that it needs heat activation, whereas main drawback using permanganate precipitation manganese oxide at NAPLs face. high cost equipment site restricts ozone in-suit remediation. AOPs such as has received great attention due its efficiency. However, photocatalysis technology field difficult because photo energy run process. Although can degrade minutes, some active species have short-lived time could disappear before entering layer. Ozonation treat soils low moisture large pore spaces. Nevertheless, optimal pH ozonation 3, which hard achieve real-world applications. Combining valuable technique synergetic effects may increase sustainability applied process towards green remediation.

Self-sustaining smoldering combustion: a novel remediation process for non-aqueous-phase liquids in porous media.
Smoldering combustion, the slow burning process associated typically with porous solids (e.g., charcoal), is here proposed as a novel remediation approach for nonaqueous phase liquids (NAPLs) embedded in porous media. Several one-dimensional vertical smoldering experiments are conducted on quartz sand containing fresh coal tar at an initial concentration of 71 000 mg/kg (approximately 25% satur...
متن کاملEvaluation of two remediation techniques for the removal of silica from contaminated soil, Azandarian region, Iran
Background and Objective: Bioremediation and one of its main branches, namely phytoremediation, is one of the most important and basic processes for eliminating pollutants from the environment. Due to the large number of silica factories in Azandarian area of Malayer city and high soil silica pollution in this area, this study was conducted to compare the bioremediation effect of Fusarium oxy...
متن کاملComparasion of Photochemical Oxidation Process Efficiency Based on Hydrogen Peroxide and Persulfate for the Removal of Paraquat from Aqueous Solutions
Introduction and purpose: One of the most important factors in the contamination of aquatic ecosystems is agricultural pesticides. Paraquat is a water-soluble and non-selective herbicide, which has adverse health effects, such as respiratory distress and even death. This study aimed to evaluate the degradability of paraquat toxins using photochemical oxidation processes based on hydrogen peroxi...
متن کاملAn overview and analysis of site remediation technologies.
This paper presents an analysis of the site restoration techniques that may be employed in a variety of contaminated site cleanup programs. It is recognized that no single specific technology may be considered as a panacea for all contaminated site problems. An easy-to-use summary of the analysis of the important parameters that will help in the selection and implementation of one or more appro...
