An Optimum Thermal Insulation Type and Thickness for Residential Buildings in Three Different Climatic Regions of Saudi Arabia

Efficient thermal insulation in the harsh desert climate of Saudi Arabia, where cooling requirement buildings is dominant, very important from aspect energy efficiency. Through its eco-friendly properties, one most efficient strategies for reducing use while providing desired comfort. In this study, impact type and thickness on annual consumption was evaluated a sample prototype building located three cities. DesignBuilder simulation tool has been used more investigation such as cost benefits using life-cycle model to knowing when stop adding insulation. Results showed that applying walls roof leads significant reduction total costs all four types. The results show savings vary 5.6 $/m2 9.7 depending city climatic condition. On other hand, highest payback period value with 8.8 years Khamis Mushait (Moderate climate), lowest reached 4.7 Gazan (Hot-humid climate).
