An Old Technique with A Promising Future: Recent Advances in the Use of Electrodeposition for Metal Recovery

Although the first published works on electrodeposition dates from more than one century ago (1905), uses of this technique in recovery metals are attracting an increasing interest scientific community recent years. Moreover, intense use electronics and necessity to assure a second life these devices context circular economy, have increased electrodeposition, with almost 3000 per year nowadays. In review, we aim revise most relevant publications application for metal recovery. These contributions been classified into four main groups approaches: (1) treatment reuse wastewater; (2) ionic liquids; (3) bio-electrochemical processes (microbial fuel cells microbial electrolysis cells) (4) integration other (bioleaching, adsorption, membrane processes, etc.). This would increase awareness about importance technology serve as starting point anyone that aims start working field.
