An Intelligent SDN-Based Clustering Approach for Optimizing IoT Power Consumption in Smart Homes

As a novel technology, the Internet of Things (IoT) has many applications in diverse fields, especially smart homes. IoT includes variety communication networks and technologies which facilitate between heterogeneous devices. One primary challenges is energy consumption. This paper introduces new Software Defined Network-based (SDN-based) clustering approach using intelligent algorithms for conservation IoT. The proposed method uses an evolutionary algorithm to identify required number clusters ensures their distribution environment. A virtual network also employed ensure coverage formation balanced clusters. Clustering, steady, routing are main steps that step done SDN. By expanding steady phase leveraging energy-based greedy routing, network’s lifetime increases. After simulation MATLAB, tested then results compared with other well-known algorithms. evaluation indicate improved terms metrics such as consumption lifetime. improves by 31%, 28%, 8% 21% than FPA, MCFL, BEEG NodeRanked respectively. been 34% 71% NodeRanked, respectively, more 100% MCFL FPA.
