An integrative approach to assess non‐native iguana presence on Saba and Montserrat: Are we losing all native Iguana populations in the Lesser Antilles?

چکیده

Invasive alien species are among the main drivers of ongoing sixth mass extinction wave, especially affecting island populations. Although Caribbean is well-known for its high richness and endemism, also reptiles, equally important regional contribution non-native to biodiversity. The Lesser Antilles encompass genetic diversity in Iguana, though most native populations either have gone extinct or declining following competitive hybridization with invasive green iguanas. Here, we assessed presence two poorly-studied melanistic Iguana iguana using available tools explored utilizing size-dependent body measurements discriminate between Genetic samples from Saba Montserrat were genotyped across 17 microsatellite loci STRUCTURE, multivariate analyses indicating only on Saba. This was corroborated by mtDNA nDNA sequences, highlighting a origin Central America ABC islands. We identified preliminary evidence suggestive hybridization. Morphological variation characteristics showed that iguanas significantly larger subtympanic plates than Non-native individuals differed scalation coloration patterns. Overall, our findings demonstrate need continuous monitoring within remaining Antilles, as those not directly threatened restricted 8.7% historic range. data allow identification hybrid presence, this field-to-lab workflow time-consuming. Genetic Evidence of Hybridization between the Endangered Native Species Iguana delicatissima and the Invasive Iguana iguana (Reptilia, Iguanidae) in the Lesser Antilles: Management Implications

The worldwide increase of hybridization in different groups is thought to have become more important with the loss of isolating barriers and the introduction of invasive species. This phenomenon could result in the extinction of endemic species. This study aims at investigating the hybridization dynamics between the endemic and threatened Lesser Antillean iguana (Iguana delicatissima) and the i...

Notes on Bats from Montserrat (Lesser Antilles) with Comments Concerning the Effects of Hurricane Hugo

— From August 1993 to August 1994, bats were surveyed on Montserrat, Lesser Antilles. Four years after this small volcanic island was struck by Hurricane Hugo (1989), there remains a 20-fold decrease in bat populations as compared to levels before Hugo. After the hurricane, composition of the community shifted from smaller frugivorous species to one of more omnivorous and larger frugivorous spe...

a frame semantic approach to the study of translating cultural scripts in salingers franny and zooey

the frame semantic theory is a nascent approach in the area of translation studies which goes beyond the linguistic barriers and helps us to incorporate cognitive and cultural factors to the study of translation. based on rojos analytical model (2002b), which centered in the frames or knowledge structures activated in the text, the present research explores the various translation problems that...

contribution of setting to the study of characters and the main idea in e. brontes: wuthering heights and t. hardys: return of the native.

this thesis aims to adduce an unmitigated and comprehensive explication concerning the relationship of three significant elements of fiction: setting, chracter and theme. my research is basically placed on two outstanding novels of the 19th century: emily brontes wuthering heights and thomas hardys return of the native. my endeavour lies in studying the correlation among the three above-mention...
