چکیده
Abstract Soil moisture is a crucial variable in evaluating soil properties and its interaction with the atmosphere, yet none of techniques currently employed fully adequate for water content over an area hectares depth tens centimeters. In recent times, it has been shown how this volume can be accurately assessed measuring changes epithermal flux cosmic neutrons, which extremely sensitive to moderation caused by hydrogen. The instruments neutron measurements are usually counters, covered moderator coatings enhancing their sensitivity energy range. On other hand, worldwide shortage $${}^{3}$$ 3 He considerable increase costs associated manufacturing proportional counters based on gas, were widely great noise rejection capability. work, we developed He-free spectrometer performing these measurements, detects neutrons range from 0.01 ev 1 GeV. reconstruction spectrum allows more accurate evaluation provides information improves quality measurements. Measurements with an innovative high energy resolution Thomson Parabola Spectrometer
In recent years a new concept of particle acceleration has gained interest. It is based on high power, short pulse lasers interacting with thin metal foils. In the interaction process the target is suddenly ionized and the charge separation, originating from different phenomena, can efficiently accelerate ions and in particular protons from the target impurities. The peculiar characteristics of...
متن کاملMicrostrip ring resonator for soil moisture measurements
Accurate determination of spatial soil moisture distribution and monitoring its temporal variation have a significant impact on the outcomes of hydrologic, ecologic, and climatic models. Development of a successful remote sensing instrument for soil moisture relies on the accurate knowledge of the soil dielectric constant ( soil) to its moisture content. Two existing methods for measurement of ...
متن کاملComparison of In Situ Soil Moisture Measurements: An Examination of the Neutron and Dielectric Measurements within the Illinois Climate Network
The continuity of soil moisture time series data is crucial for climatic research. Yet, a common problem for continuous data series is the changing of sensors, not only as replacements are necessary, but as technologies evolve. The Illinois Climate Network has one of the longest data records of soil moisture; yet, it has a discontinuity when the primary sensor (neutron probes) was replaced with...
متن کاملThe International Soil Moisture Network: a data hosting facility for global in situ soil moisture measurements
In situ measurements of soil moisture are invaluable for calibrating and validating land surface models and satellite-based soil moisture retrievals. In addition, longterm time series of in situ soil moisture measurements themselves can reveal trends in the water cycle related to climate or land cover change. Nevertheless, on a worldwide basis the number of meteorological networks and stations ...
متن کاملOpen field soil moisture measurements with Radar
-As reported in [1], the Material Characteristics in Frequency Domain coupled with a 2 layer feed-forward Neural Network, MCFD/NN, has been successfully applied to soil moisture determination. The results were obtained under controlled laboratory conditions. Extension to open field soil moisture determination has been reported in [2] and it was shown that the MCFD/NN approach gives accurate res...
