چکیده
Abstract Shear dampers are known as famous seismic passive energy devices due to their suitable performance against loading improve the behavior of Concentrically Braced Frames (CBFs). The CBF system suffers from low ductility its compression member's susceptibility buckling. By adding shear directly diagonal element members CBF, prevent bucking and system. Although pertain high dissipation capacity, they reduce ultimate strength elastic stiffness To overcome shortcoming, in this paper, utilizing low‐yield point steel create an I‐shaped damper is proposed investigated parametrically numerically by Finite Element Method (FEM). This connected CBF's member. results indicated that using damper, strength, stiffness, enhanced. Also, prevents which causes damages be limited remain zone. required equations were suggested design

The Effect of Frame Geometry on the Seismic Response of Self-Centering Concentrically- Braced Frames
Conventional concentrically-braced frame (CBF) systems have limited drift capacity before brace buckling and related damage leads to deterioration in strength and stiffness. Self-centering concentrically-braced frame (SC-CBF) systems have been developed to increase drift capacity prior to initiation of damage and minimize residual drift. SC-CBFs differ from conventional CBFs in that the SC-CBF ...
متن کاملOPTIMUM PERFORMANCE-BASED DESIGN OF CONCENTRICALLY BRACED STEEL FRAMES SUBJECTED TO NEAR-FAULT GROUND MOTION EXCITATIONS
This paper presents a practical methodology for optimization of concentrically braced steel frames subjected to forward directivity near-fault ground motions, based on the concept of uniform deformation theory. This is performed by gradually shifting inefficient material from strong parts of the structure to the weak areas until a state of uniform deformation is achieved. In this regard, to ove...
متن کاملConcentrically Braced Frames: European vs. North American Seismic Design Provisions
A critical review of seismic design provisions for concentrically braced frames (CBFs) in both European and North American (i.e. US and Canadian) codes is presented in this paper. Indeed, even though those codes are based on capacity design philosophy, different requirements and different approaches are used to guarantee the hierarchy of resistances between dissipative and non-dissipative eleme...
متن کاملResponse Modification Factor of Chevron Braced Frame With Pall Friction Damper
Response modification factors (R-factor) are used in current seismic building codes to reduce earthquake forces associated with seismic design level to determine force levels. In recent years, many authors have shown great interest in the development of seismic structural systems and several theoretical and experimental studies have been conducted to investigate performance of dampers but littl...
متن کاملEvaluating Response Modification Factors of Concentrically Braced and Special Moment Steel Frames in Duplex Buildings
Response modification factor (R-factor) is one of the seismic design parameters to consider nonlinear performance of building structures during strong earthquake. Relying on this, many seismic design codes led to reduce earthquake loads imposed to the structure. The present paper tries to evaluate the R-factors of conventional concentric braced frames (CBFs) and special moment frames (MRFs) in ...
