An Improvement in Three-Dimensional Pure Proportional Navigation Guidance

This article proposes an improved version of 3-D pure proportional navigation (PPN) against a manoeuvring target. The main research hypothesis is that the performance PPN can be by properly selecting direction guidance command as there exists infinite number potential directions complying with concept in space. Analysis on relative motion confirms validity and leads to development new algorithm. Unlike traditional PPN, algorithm developed adapts direction, but maintains magnitude commanded acceleration only line-of-sight rate. proposed are investigated through theoretical analysis numerical simulations.
