An Improved High-Resistance Fault Detection Method in DC Microgrid Based on Orthogonal Wavelet Decomposition

High-resistance faults in direct current (DC) microgrids are small and thus difficult to detect. Such may be “invisible” that grid operation continues for a considerable time, which damages the grid. It is essential detect remove high-resistance faults; we present detection method herein. First, transient DC during fault subjected hierarchical wavelet decomposition identify accurately sensitively; coefficients detected using singular value (SVD) method. The SVD valve can denoise dc microgrid current, eliminates influence of converter switching frequency background noise effectively. Power system computer-aided design (PSCAD)/electromagnetic transients including (EMTDC)-based simulations showed our successfully identified faults.
