چکیده
Abstract Extreme daily precipitation contributes to flooding that can cause significant economic damages, and so is important properly capture in gridded meteorological data sets. This work examines extremes, the mean on wet days, fraction of days two widely used sets over conterminous U.S. (CONUS). Compared underlying station observations, show a 27% reduction annual 1-day maximum precipitation, 25% increase day fraction, 1.5 2.5 spell length, 30% low bias 20-year return values decrease days. It shown these changes arise primarily from time-adjustment applied put gauge observations into uniform time frame, with gridding process playing lesser role. A new set developed omits (as well as extending by 7 years) perform significantly better reproducing extreme metrics. When force land surface model, annually averaged runoff increases 38% compared original data, 17%, evapotranspiration drops 2.3%, fewer leads 3.3% estimated solar insolation. These are large enough affect portrayals flood risk water balance components for ecological climate-change applications across CONUS.

Constructing Retrospective Gridded Daily Precipitation and Temperature Datasets for the Conterminous United States
This paper presents and evaluates a method for the construction of long-range and wide-area temporal spatial datasets of daily precipitation and temperature (maximum and minimum). This method combines the interpolation of daily ratios/fractions derived from ground-based meteorological station records and respective fields of monthly estimates. Data sources for the described implementation over ...
متن کاملAn update of Xavier, King and Scanlon (2016) daily precipitation gridded data set for the Brazil
The objective of this work is to present an update to the daily precipitation gridded set developed by Xavier, King and Scanlon (2016), where the previous dataset is namely v2 and the new one is v2.1. The v2.1 gridded data uses 9,259 rain gauges relative to 3,630 in v2. We also extend the period of the gridded data by two years (v2.1 is from Jan/01/1980 to Dec/12/2015 while v2 is from Jan/01/19...
متن کاملEvaluation of downscaled, gridded climate data for the conterminous United States.
Weather and climate affect many ecological processes, making spatially continuous yet fine-resolution weather data desirable for ecological research and predictions. Numerous downscaled weather data sets exist, but little attempt has been made to evaluate them systematically. Here we address this shortcoming by focusing on four major questions: (1) How accurate are downscaled, gridded climate d...
متن کاملAnalysis of extreme daily rainfall in southeast Asia with a gridded daily rainfall data set
The objective of this study is to estimate the daily extreme precipitation distribution in an Asian monsoon region considering orographic precipitation in mountainous areas. For this purpose, the APHRODITE data set and precipitation observations from 150 raingauges throughout Thailand were used as the main input. First, a bias-correction for underestimated precipitation in the APHRODITE data se...
متن کاملProduction of Temporally Consistent Gridded Precipitation and Temperature Fields for the Continental United States*
The availability of long-term gridded datasets of precipitation, temperature, and other surface meteorological variables offers the potential for deriving a range of land surface conditions that have not been directly observed. These include, for instance, soil moisture, snow water equivalent, evapotranspiration, runoff, and subsurface moisture transport. However, gridding procedures can themse...
