An extended version of the Intermediate Axis Theorem for a freely rotating rigid body

نویسندگان

چکیده

Current numerical schemes for 3D rockfall simulation are not able to correctly represent the stability properties of a freely rotating body. Here, we give proof using Lyapunov functions an extended intermediate axis theorem, which only involves angular momentum equations but also orientation Inspired by proof, present novel scheme respects body and can be incorporated in rigid bodies with frictional unilateral constraints.

2 00 1 Precession of a Freely Rotating Rigid Body . Inelastic Relaxation in the Vicinity

When a solid body is freely rotating at an angular velocity Ω, the ellipsoid of constant angular momentum, in the space Ω1, Ω2, Ω3, has poles corresponding to spinning about the minimal-inertia and maximal-inertia axes. The first pole may be considered stable if we neglect the inner dissipation, but becomes unstable if the dissipation is taken into account. This happens because the bodies dissi...

An Instantaneous Rigid Force Model For 3-Axis Ball-End Milling Of Sculptured Surfaces

An instantaneous rigid force model for prediction of cutting forces in ball-end milling of  sculptured surfaces is presented in this paper. A commercially available geometric engine is used to represent the cutting edge, cutter and updated part geometries. The cutter used in this work is an insert type ball-end mill. Intersecting an inclined plane with the cutter ball nose generates the cutting...

A More General Version of the Costa Theorem

In accordance with the Costa theorem, the interference which is independent of the channel input and known non-causally at the transmitter, does not affect the capacity of the Gaussian channel. In some applications, the known interference depends on the input and hence has some information. In this paper, we study the channel with input dependent interference and prove a capacity theorem that n...
