An Experimental Study on Geotechnical Properties and Micro-Structure of Expansive Soil Stabilized with Waste Granite Dust

Mining industries around the world produce massive amounts of solid waste that has potential environmental impacts. Therefore, it is necessary to explore alternative solutions this disposal problem and obtain economic benefits from it. Up now, no significant attempts have been made use granite dust (GD) as a soil stabilizer. GD by-product produced in large during cutting processing rocks at manufacturing factories. Thus, an attempt here define role enhancing geotechnical behaviour expansive order make suitable for construction. Moreover, aim study evaluate micro-level alterations occurring elucidate stabilization mechanism dust–soil interaction. Comprehensive tests, such Atterberg limits, compaction characteristics, unconfined compressive strength (UCS), California bearing ratio (CBR), swelling percentage, well microstructural analysis, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy, Fourier transform infrared, performed on natural stabilized soils using different portions ranges 0% 30% with increment 5%. The results showed can be effectively used improve plasticity control behaviour. Additionally, indicated both UCS CBR increase increasing content GD, reaches maximum value 20% after which decreases. Hence, amount taken optimum GD. micro-analyses confirmed apparent formation some new peaks, changes morphology, parent elements are major factors controlling interactive soil-GD mixes.
