An Experimental Investigation of Drilling Performance Improvement Using Reaming While Drilling

Abstract This work investigates the drilling performance by reaming while (RWD) using a dual-body bit and compared it with conventional standard bit. The consisted of 2.45-in. pilot located at short distance ahead 2.47 × 3.97-in. reamer. Conducting series experiments simulation rig full monitoring sensors, we further studied as function between is greatly important parameter affecting mud diffusion resultant change in pore pressure stress. A method was devised to eliminate drill-string vibration its effect on energy consumed. mechanical-specific (MSE) calculated for each case considered indicator. Using two laboratory well analytical thermo-poro-elastic calculations Mechanical Specific Energy (MSE), MSE changes were monitored recorded. Comparison this indicator used both RWD assembly analyze RWD. Based results, increasing reamer, there an increase improvement terms reduction. best (MSE reduction 84%) observed greatest reamer 43.3 cm. novel finding drilling.
