An ethico‐political analysis of a national teacher competence framework: Unravelling a ‘preferred’ teacher identity

In recent years, as evidenced in the transnational proliferation of codified competence frameworks for teacher education purposes, we have seen increased politicisation and regulation task teaching what it means to be a teacher. Making case an ethico-political conceptualisation identity and, using Foucauldian-based framework identity, apply discourse analysis approach unravel ‘preferred’ construction Ireland's national framework, Initial Teacher Education Criteria Guidelines Programme Providers illustrative case. Findings illuminate this as: (i) telos vis-à-vis embodying objectives via critical engagement underpinned by knowledge surfaces temporal appreciation policy; (ii) ethical substance seven modes animated two interdependent phases with unique practice dynamics policy emphases; (iii) discursive authority sources that utilise three major sense-making; (iv) self-practices confessional dialogue self-writing. Considering politics truth education, make macro work valuable analytical tool education.
