An equilibrium raindrop size distribution associated with a heavy-rain-producing convective system in Japan

چکیده
We investigated the microphysical mechanisms for enhancement of rainfall in a precipitating system that spawned heavy over central part Kanto Plain eastern Japan on 12 July 2022. Optical disdrometer observations confirmed existence an equilibrium state raindrop size distribution, especially when precipitation intensity was high (e.g., 20 mm hr−1). As distribution approached equilibrium, sizes centered around 1.5 were observed initially, and then number concentration smaller larger raindrops increased simultaneously. The closely related to vertical profile parameters estimated from polarimetric radar observations. These results suggest formation distributions is important produce substantial midlatitude as well tropics.

متن کاملMechanisms for Quasi-Stationary Behavior in Simulated Heavy-Rain-Producing Convective Systems
In this study, idealized numerical simulations are used to identify the processes responsible for initiating, organizing, and maintaining quasi-stationary convective systems that produce locally extreme rainfall amounts. Of particular interest are those convective systems that have been observed to occur near mesoscale convective vortices (MCVs) and other midlevel circulations. To simulate the ...

This study identifies and examines the common characteristics of several nocturnal midlatitude mesoscale convective systems (MCSs) that developed near mesoscale convective vortices (MCVs) or cutoff lows. All of these MCSs were organized into convective clusters or lines that exhibited back-building behavior, remained nearly stationary for 6–12 h, and produced locally excessive rainfall (greater...

1. INTRODUCTION The granularity of raindrops within a rain volume has been the focus of recent research projects such as the ones dealing with numerical simulation of pollutants scavenging and radar microwave electromagnetic energy dispersion by rainfall, represented by radar reflectivity factor. The raindrop size distribution (RSD) characteristics depend on the microphysical, dynamical and kin...
