An Empirical Correlations to Predict Shear Wave Velocity at Southern Iraq Oilfield

Geomechanical studies are very important in the development stages of oil fields to solve many problems such as wellbore instability and sand production. However, this study is not complete without availability mechanical properties rocks. These estimate from petrophysical logs based on compressional shear wave velocities. But often missing most wells, reason might be cost-saving. Therefore, aims find correlations predict velocity Mishrif reservoir.
 The empirical equations formed using log data six wells drilled southern Iraq oilfield. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software was relied correlations. Eleven have been obtained, but best three equations: linear, quadratic, cubic because they give highest value R2 = 0.924. Also, these (linear, cubic) tested sensitivity, stable equation quadratic. Moreover, examined four measured velocity, results were reliable. Finally, by where there no data, then calculating rock properties, predicting instability, comparing breakout with caliper, result excellent. This an excellent solution estimation measurements
