An Approach to Predict Geometrically and Thermo-Mechanically Induced Stress Concentrations in Ribbed Reinforcing Bars

Ribbed reinforcing steel bars (rebars) are used for the reinforcement of concrete structures. In service, they subjected to cyclic loading. Several studies addressing relationship between rib geometry, stresses at rebar surface induced by service loads and fatigue performance can be found in literature. However, rebar’s is also influenced residual originating from manufacturing process. this contribution, a modeling approach proposed examine geometrically thermo-mechanically stress concentrations ribbed made grade B500B. A linear-elastic load analysis thermo-mechanical process conducted. The results discussed compared literature results. case analysis, agree well with findings reported extend current state knowledge B500B rebars small diameters. compressive two ribs tensile longitudinal direction tip reported.
