An Analytical Baseflow Coefficient Curve for Depicting the Spatial Variability of Mean Annual Catchment Baseflow

چکیده
Catchment baseflow is jointly controlled by climate and landscape properties. Previous studies have recognized that spatial variability of mean annual coefficient (BFC = , ratio to precipitation) primarily aridity index storage capacity. However, an analytical solution BFC in terms the dominant controlling factors has not yet been established. The objective this study was develop curve depict based on “limit” concept Budyko framework. relates capacity without resolving complex interactions between evapotranspiration generation. proposed showed that, arid catchments, limited available water (precipitation, P) and, humid both energy (potential evapotranspiration, Ep) catchment retention capability (ratio P, i.e., Sp/P). Observed hydrological data from 950 catchments Australia, conterminous United States Kingdom with diverse hydro-climatic conditions 0.001–0.650) were collected demonstrate developed curve. Results captured observed (R2 0.75, RMSE 0.058). Mean estimated agreed well 0.86, 0.19 mm). provides for understanding how control baseflow, will improve predictability at ungauged basins.

Regression Modeling of Baseflow and Baseflow Index for Michigan USA
Baseflow plays an important role in maintaining streamflow. Seventeen gauged watersheds and their characteristics were used to develop regression models for annual baseflow and baseflow index (BFI) estimation in Michigan. Baseflow was estimated from daily streamflow records using the two-parameter recursive digital filter method for baseflow separation of the Web-based Hydrograph Analysis Tool ...
متن کاملEstimation of Baseflow Recession Constants
Hydrograph recession constants are required in rainfall-runoff models, base flow augmentation studies, geohydrologic investigations and in regional low-flow studies. The recession portion of a streamflow hydrograph is shown to be either an autoregressive process or an integrated moving average process, depending upon the structure of the assumed model errors. Six different estimators of the bas...

In 2003, Reilly and Kroll examined the baseflow correlation method at river sites throughout the United States. The current study reexamines Reilly and Kroll’s baseflow correlation experiment by investigating the use of different performance metrics, experimental parameters, and model assumptions that were not investigated by Reilly and Kroll. The goal of this study is to provide additional gui...

The U.S. Geological Survey National Water-Quality Assessment Project conducted a study of 225 sites in the Chesapeake Bay watershed to estimate base flow. Baseflow is the estimated volumetric discharge of water, primarily from groundwater sources, that is relayed to the measurement sites. The study is necessary in order to address the nation’s water supply for changes in the environment. Basefl...
