An Aisle Displacement Ventilation System for Twin-Aisle Commercial Airliner Cabin

The environmental control system in most commercial airliner cabins supplies air from shoulder and ceiling level exhausts at floor on both sides of the cabin walls. ventilation mixes to create a relative uniform temperature distribution which is great for passengers’ thermal comfort. However, mixing also enhances airborne contaminant transfer. Many displacement methods have been proposed use aircraft cabins, but disadvantages approach are usually creating draft ankles high stratification between heads feet. This investigation developed an aisle (ADV) can reduce effectively without occupying legroom space under seats, so it good passengers crew members’ comfort friendly luggage storage, addition, be easily installed cabins. By installing five-row, twin-aisle mockup, our study found that ADV low velocity maintain acceptable draft. created uprising airflow remove was generated index respiratory activities. experimental data were used validate computational-fluid-dynamics (CFD) program. validated CFD program compare with under-seat (USDV) underfloor (UFAD) along aisles. comparison results show had obvious better than other two systems, quality three systems similar, all far “perfectly-mixed” ventilated condition.
