A Dose-Effect Study of Cisplatin Ototoxicity in Albino Guinea Pigs
Introduction: Cisplatin is one of the most commonly used antineoplastic drugs; nonetheless, its ototoxic dose-limiting side effects have remained a significant challenge in clinical practice. The recognition of the exact template of hearing loss induced by multiple low doses of cisplatin could be of great help in managing the treatment process. The present study aimed to investigate the e...
متن کاملAn energy-dependent step in aminoglycoside ototoxicity: prevention of gentamicin ototoxicity during reduced endolymphatic potential.
Guinea pigs received a bolus of gentamicin (10 mM for 5 min) by perilymphatic perfusion which normally led to an irreversible loss of the cochlear microphonic potential (CM). Various experimental conditions that reduced the endolymphatic potential (EP) were then superimposed on the gentamicin application. Reversible reductions in EP (and, concomitantly, in CM) were induced by asphyxia (3 min), ...

UNLABELLED Changes, destructions and interruptions in middle ear ossicular chain architecture may be caused by infection, trauma, tumors, congenital alterations or prior surgeries. Nonetheless, infectious and inflammatory processes, focal or generalized which affect the middle ear are the most prevalent, causing a great demand for ossiculoplasty. Biosilicato is a new material which can be used ...
متن کاملTargeted amelioration of cisplatin-induced ototoxicity in guinea pigs.
This pilot study compared otoprotection provided by trans-tympanic formulations and systemic intraperitoneal administration of L-N-acetylcysteine from cisplatin-induced cochlear oxidative stress. Protection was assessed by measures of hearing loss and cochlear glutathione levels. All groups received an equivalent single dose of L-N-acetylcysteine followed by cisplatin. Cisplatin was administere...
متن کاملAbsence of ototoxicity of teichomycin A2 in guinea pigs.
Teichomycin A2 is a new antibiotic that is similar to vancomycin. Because vancomycin is reported to be ototoxic, teichomycin A2 was tested for ototoxicity. No evidence of ototoxicity was found. Furthermore, ethacrynic acid, a diuretic that augments the ototoxicity of many drugs, did not enhance ototoxicity with teichomycin A2.
