Amino acid carbon isotope fingerprints are unique among eukaryotic microalgal taxonomic groups

چکیده
Eukaryotic microalgae play critical roles in the structure and function of marine food webs. The contribution to webs can be tracked using compound-specific isotope analysis amino acids (CSIA-AA). Previous CSIA-AA studies have defined eukaryotic as a single functional group web mixing models, despite their vast taxonomic ecological diversity. Using controlled cultures, this work characterizes acid δ13C (δ13CAA) fingerprints—a multivariate metric carbon values—of four major groups microalgae: diatoms, dinoflagellates, raphidophytes, prasinophytes. We found excellent separation essential (δ13CEAA) fingerprints among microalgal (mean posterior probability reclassification 99.2 ± 2.9%). also quantified temperature effects, primary driver bulk variability, on fidelity δ13CAA fingerprints. A 10°C range conditions did not significant impacts variance values or diagnostic δ13CEAA These were used identify producers at base supporting consumers two contrasting systems: (1) penguins feeding diatom-based (2) mixotrophic corals receiving directly from autotrophic endosymbiotic dinoflagellates indirectly water column prasinophytes, cyanobacteria, likely via heterotrophic zooplankton. increased specificity developed here will greatly improve future efforts reconstruct diverse sources cycling organic matter dynamics biogeochemical studies.

متن کاملVariation in amino acid and lipid composition of latent fingerprints.
The enhancement of latent fingerprints, both at the crime scene and in the laboratory using an array of chemical, physical and optical techniques, permits their use for identification. Despite the plethora of techniques available, there are occasions when latent fingerprints are not successfully enhanced. An understanding of latent fingerprint chemistry and behaviour will aid the improvement of...
متن کاملTracing Carbon Sources through Aquatic and Terrestrial Food Webs Using Amino Acid Stable Isotope Fingerprinting
Tracing the origin of nutrients is a fundamental goal of food web research but methodological issues associated with current research techniques such as using stable isotope ratios of bulk tissue can lead to confounding results. We investigated whether naturally occurring δ(13)C patterns among amino acids (δ(13)CAA) could distinguish between multiple aquatic and terrestrial primary production s...
متن کاملAmino acid-regulated gene expression in eukaryotic cells.
Given the central role of protein synthesis in cellular function, it is likely that intricate mechanisms exist to detect and respond to amino acid deprivation. However, the current understanding of amino acid-dependent control of gene expression in mammalian cells is limited. A few examples of enzyme, transporters, and unidentified mRNA species subject to amino acid availability have been repor...
متن کاملAmino acid runs in eukaryotic proteomes and disease associations.
We present a comparative proteome analysis of the five complete eukaryotic genomes (human, Drosophila melanogaster, Caenorhabditis elegans, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Arabidopsis thaliana), focusing on individual and multiple amino acid runs, charge and hydrophobic runs. We found that human proteins with multiple long runs are often associated with diseases; these include long glutamine runs tha...
