Ambivalent Sexism in the State of Qatar: Gender Roles and Patriarchal Attitudes

Abstract This article examines public attitudes toward ambivalent sexism in the State of Qatar, which has taken considerable initiatives to prioritize women’s empowerment strategies and promote equality between men women. It investigates whether these are reflected nationals’ women by measuring scores on Ambivalent Sexism Inventory ( ASI ). While prior research focused almost exclusively role social implications, much less been explored regarding sentiments underlying traditional gender roles patriarchal Qatari society. study uses original survey data from a national sample 2019 survey. The results novel analytical descriptive approach used here suggest that individuals Qatar highly sexist average, indicating as nation, low measures. analysis also reveals benevolent is evaluated more positively than hostile sexism, although its dimensions correlate with views stereotyping context high inequality. These findings especially important considering ever-emerging dynamics increased efforts being gradually expended for improved parity.
