Amazon deforestation enriches antibiotic resistance genes

چکیده
The expansion of livestock production and agriculture is responsible for the increase deforestation rates in Amazon rainforest, with consequences to climate micro macro biodiversity. Although many studies have evaluated effects on microbiome, its effect soil resistome remains unknown. Considering that antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) are a threat global health food security, here we how land-use change region impacts resistome. Our analysis revealed several mechanisms common both native forest altered areas; however, subsequent conversion other systems increased diversity abundance these genes. enrichment ARGs correlated microbial response deforestation, along changes chemical properties, such as pH aluminum. findings demonstrated enriched anthropogenic disturbances may exert selective pressure communities expanding Further investigation still needed understand if can be transferred via chains (e.g. agricultural soils) humans, jeopardizing treatment effectiveness compromising public health.

Amazon deforestation and climate change.
A coupled numerical model of the global atmosphere and biosphere has been used to assess the effects of Amazon deforestation on the regional and global climate. When the tropical forests in the model were replaced by degraded grass (pasture), there was a significant increase in surface temperature and a decrease in evapotranspiration and precipitation over Amazonia. In the simulation, the lengt...
متن کاملTropical Deforestation in the Amazon
Tropical forests are a unique environmental resource that provide numerous global benefits. Of the world's biomes, they provide the greatest biological diversity of plants and animals. It is estimated that these forests contain at least fifty percent of the world's animal species and almost seventy five percent of the world's plant species. Increased deforestation is likely to reduce this biodi...
متن کاملAntibiotic resistance profiles of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates containing virulence genes
Background: A most common opportunistic pathogen, Pseudomonas aeruginosa is present in both humans and animals and responsible for various nosocomial infections and healthcare settings related infections. Different virulence genes like; oprL (membrane lipoprotein L) and toxA (exotoxin A i.e. ETA) in P. aeruginosa, assist in its pathogenicity, toxicity and contribute to high antibiotic resistanc...
متن کاملARDB—Antibiotic Resistance Genes Database
The treatment of infections is increasingly compromised by the ability of bacteria to develop resistance to antibiotics through mutations or through the acquisition of resistance genes. Antibiotic resistance genes also have the potential to be used for bio-terror purposes through genetically modified organisms. In order to facilitate the identification and characterization of these genes, we ha...
متن کاملWhat Drives Deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon?
While previous empirical analysis of deforestation focused on population, this paper builds from a model of land use which suggests many determinants of deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon. I derive a deforestation equation from this model and test a number of those factors using county-level data for the period 1978]1988. The data include a satellite deforestation measure which allows improv...
