Alpha Correlates of Practice During Mental Preparation for Motor Imagery
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this study, we quantified performance variations of motor imagery (MI)-based brain–computer interface (BCI) systems induced by practice. Two experimental sessions were recorded from ten healthy subjects while playing a BCI-oriented video game for 2 weeks. The analysis focused on the exploration electroencephalographic (EEG) changes during mental preparation between novice and practiced subjects. EEG using global field power (GFP), dynamic time warping (TW), mutual information (MutInf): GFP represents strength electric field, TW measures signal similarities, MutInf signals interdependency. Each metric was selected to relate insights extracted three hypotheses associating practice with BCI performance. Significant results identified in lower alpha upper MutInf. assessed not only versus but also “intrasession” differences. Findings suggest that provide quantitative measure level. These metrics before intention could be applied models targeting MI monitor user’s degree training.

Aims. While studies on healthy subjects have shown a partial overlap between the motor execution and motor imagery neural circuits, few have investigated brain activity during motor imagery in stroke patients with hemiparesis. This work is aimed at examining similarities between motor imagery and execution in a group of stroke patients. Materials and Methods. Eleven patients were asked to perfo...
متن کاملMental Representation and Mental Practice: Experimental Investigation on the Functional Links between Motor Memory and Motor Imagery
Recent research on mental representation of complex action has revealed distinct differences in the structure of representational frameworks between experts and novices. More recently, research on the development of mental representation structure has elicited functional changes in novices' representations as a result of practice. However, research investigating if and how mental practice adds ...
متن کاملMental representation and motor imagery training
Research in sports, dance and rehabilitation has shown that basic action concepts (BACs) are fundamental building blocks of mental action representations. BACs are based on chunked body postures related to common functions for realizing action goals. In this paper, we outline issues in research methodology and an experimental method, the structural dimensional analysis of mental representation ...
