Alongshore Variable Accretional and Erosional Coastal Foredune Dynamics at Event to Interannual Timescales

چکیده
Natural and constructed dunes are increasingly being utilized to buffer flooding impacts from storms rising sea levels along sandy coastlines. However, a lack of data at the appropriate spatial temporal resolution often precludes isolating total magnitude, specific timing, alongshore variability volumetric coastal dune changes resulting both wave wind-driven processes. Here mobile terrestrial lidar 46 collections 6.5 km stretch beach in Duck, NC, USA used assess magnitude drivers variable responses between 2012 2020. Despite numerous major storm events which impacted over this time period, grew volumetrically nourished un-nourished sections study site. Growth was seasonally spatially with largest growth recorded Fall, coinciding period frequent windy but also highest water levels, regions lowest gradient βbeach. The vertical accretion patterns these wind-blown sediments shown vary depending on management style, specifically, if were not managed, sand fenced, or artificially constructed. Dune erosion occurred episodically within steepest sloped likely be most during individual events.

Partitioning controls on Amazon forest photosynthesis between environmental and biotic factors at hourly to interannual timescales.
Gross ecosystem productivity (GEP) in tropical forests varies both with the environment and with biotic changes in photosynthetic infrastructure, but our understanding of the relative effects of these factors across timescales is limited. Here, we used a statistical model to partition the variability of seven years of eddy covariance-derived GEP in a central Amazon evergreen forest into two mai...
متن کاملCoastal foredune evolution: the relative influence of vegetation and sand supply in the US Pacific Northwest.
Biophysical feedbacks between vegetation and sediment are important for forming and modifying landscape features and their ecosystem services. These feedbacks are especially important where landscape features differ in their provision of ecosystem services. For example, the shape of coastal foredunes, a product of both physical and biological forces, determines their ability to protect communit...

متن کاملLong term coastal erosion and shoreline positions of Sri Lanka
Coastal zone of Sri Lanka is a key to sustainable development of the country. The erosion of country’s coastal zone has been identified as a long standing problem. Therefore, coastal sediment dynamics around the country has to be identified to develop an appropriate coastal zone management plan. Remote sensing and GIS techniques can be used for quantitative and qualitative analyses of coastal p...
متن کاملEffects of changing precipitation regimes on dryland soil respiration and C pool dynamics at rainfall event, seasonal and interannual scales
[1] Predicted precipitation regime changes in arid ecosystems have the potential to alter soil C balance, but the influence of changes in different aspects of precipitation (amount, seasonality, and intensity) and the factors contributing to such effects are poorly understood. We used a process-based ecosystem model (PALS) that was modified, parameterized, and evaluated for a Mojave Desert ecos...
