‘Allow her to flourish and grow’: commodifying gendered handicraft labour in conscious capitalist brand imagery on Instagram

چکیده
Much of development policy centred around women over the last 50 years has increasingly emphasised women’s engagement in formal labour force. In more recent years, emergence Western ‘conscious capitalist’ and ‘fair trade’ brands have sought to bridge this gap by employing from Global South their supply chains. Although provided increased opportunities for women, especially those poor communities, through process defetishising vis-à-vis exposure branded advertising imagery, images these effectively become commoditised themselves. Using a content analysis 300 Instagram three conscious capitalist handicraft brands, paper will explore how imagery is shaped stereotypical thematic constructions ‘developing women’ South, characterise representations producers advertising.
