Multi-wavelength, all-solid-state, continuous wave mode locked picosecond Raman laser.
We demonstrate the operation of a cascaded continuous wave (CW) mode-locked Raman oscillator. The output pulses were compressed from 28 ps at 532 nm down to 6.5 ps at 559 nm (first Stokes) and 5.5 ps at 589 nm (second Stokes). The maximum output was 2.5 W at 559 nm and 1.4 W at 589 nm with slope efficiencies up to 52%. This technique allows simple and efficient generation of short-pulse radiati...
متن کاملAll - Solid - State Four - Color Laser
This is the final report of a three-year, Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) project at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The goal of this project is to develop a solid state laser that produces visible output wavelengths, including the commercially compelling blue wavelength. The basic architecture of the device consists of a single-mode optical fiber doped with Pr3+ and ...
متن کاملSolid-state Laser Cooling of Ytterbium-doped Tungstate Crystals
Anti-Stokes fluorescence can be used to cool a material if its radiative quantum efficiency is nearly unity. Until recently, the only solid which had shown net cooling was an ytterbium-doped heavy metal fluoride glass. Reasons for the lack of success with other materials include energy transfer to unwanted impurities, trapping of the fluorescence by internal reflection and reabsorption, and non...
متن کامل1 Quantum State Manipulation Of Trapped Atomic Ions
A single laser-cooled and trapped Be ion is used to investigate methods of coherent 9 + quantum-state synthesis and quantum logic. We create and characterize nonclassical states of motion including " Schrödinger-cat " states. A fundamental quantum logic gate is realized which uses two states of the quantized ion motion and two ion internal states as qubits. We explore some of the applications f...
متن کاملAll-solid-state tunable continuous-wave ultraviolet source with high spectral purity and frequency stability.
We present a novel approach for the generation of higly frequency-stable, widely tunable, single-frequency cw UV light that is suitable for high-resolution spectroscopy. Sum-frequency generation (SFG) of two solid-state sources with a single cavity resonant for both fundamental waves is employed. Using a highly stable, narrow-linewidth frequency-doubled cw Nd:YAG laser as a master laser and sla...
