Alkali Modification: An Approach to Improve Surface Properties of Biochar From Easily Available Feedstocks

Biochar is a stable carbon-rich material whose potentials can be greatly enhanced by modification with simple treatments. Easily available two different biochars such as rice stubble biochar (RSB) and saw dust (SDB) were slowly pyrolyzed (450±50°C) modified KOH RSB-M SDB-M respectively. Represented analyzed to know their physicochemical characteristics nutrient contents. Results revealed that contents total N, P S of RSB SDB found maximum whereas showed the lowest All possessed pH value higher than 7. In case organic C, values (19.97%) SDBM (17.83%) highest (17.32%) (14.80%) lowest. very low concentration heavy metals (such Cr, Cd, Pb Ni). Water holding capacity, average particle size surface area in compared unmodified SDB. These findings alkali-modified had better properties biochars. Dhaka Univ. J. Biol.
