Airflow vibration of diaphragmatic breathing: model and demonstration using optical biosensor

Optical fiber is increasingly popular and appreciated as a modern sensor technology in various sectors, one of which for medical functions. This study was conducted to detect human diaphragmatic breathing flow using theoretical experimental approaches. Initially, the lung model formed finite element method Navier-Stokes equation by applying principles momentum continuity. Furthermore, Bragg grating (FBG) single mode (SMF) were experimentally designed with sinusoidal patterned macro-scale bending stretch belt applied diaphragm. The simulation shows airflow velocity increases up 4 m/s when it flows into smaller branches. While results show that largest power loss occurs at buffer diameter 0.8 cm. detected SMF maximum -0.18 dBm during inhalation minimum -0.28 expiration. However, FBG superior high sensitivity.
