Air Quality in Nigerian Urban Environments: A Comprehensive Assessment of Gaseous Pollutants and Particle Concentrations

چکیده

The rise in gaseous pollutants and particulate concentrations is a serious problem for the environment. This study examined air quality within four urban areas (Awka, Ekwulobia, Nnewi, Onitsha) Anambra State, Nigeria. of known including suspended matter (PM2.5 PM10), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), sulfur (SO2), methane (CH4), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), ammonia (NH3), ozone (O3), carbon (CO2) monoxide (CO) were assessed at various locations using Aeroqual monitoring devices, results compared with WHO guidelines health impact assessment. index (AQI) was interpolated from pollutant order to show hazard categories conditions over locations. mean SO2, CH4, VOCs residential Awka, Nnewi range 200-8000 µg m-3 exceeded limits quality. While levels CO2, CH4 (3.25-1,027,000 m-3) commercial limits, only (500-1100 Awka Ekwulobia limits. 62-181 40-295 ranges PM2.5 PM10, respectively particle which World Health Organization (WHO) recommended aspects pollution exceeded. AQI calculations showed some may have potential risks public health.

Particle concentrations in urban microenvironments.

Although ambient particulate matter has been associated with a range of health outcomes, the health risks for individuals depend in part on their daily activities. Information about particle mass concentrations and size distributions in indoor and outdoor microenvironments can help identify high-risk individuals and the significant contributors to personal exposure. To address these issues in a...
