AHP and GIS-based Delineation of Groundwater Potential of Papum Pare District of Arunachal Pradesh, India

Water is crucial to human survival. Studies on surface water are well documented but precise knowledge of groundwater resources difficult. Thus, accurate could meet the necessities at present and in long run. Application Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) Geographical Information System (GIS) together with multi-criteria parameters has emerged as an efficient technique for delineation potential recent decades. However, no efforts delineate have been attempted study area till date. Hence, this study, Papum Pare district Arunachal Pradesh was delineated by combining AHP, overlay analysis, GIS, ten thematic layers (geomorphology, geology, slope, lineament density, drainage rainfall, distance from major river, topographic wetness index, soil texture, land use/land cover). The results show about 64% under poor potential. Moderate good found 31% 5% area. Map-removal single-parameter sensitivity analyses revealed that map most sensitive annual average rainfall a mean variation index 1.05% weight 19.07%. flood/alluvial plains, Siwalik formations sediments, level gentle slopes receiving high potential, dissected hills/valleys, metamorphic rock assemblages, steep low reveals overall accuracy 81.25% Kappa coefficient 0.72 explains agreement between reference data map. estimated appears too little concerning increasing population urbanization. Therefore, state government general planning department particular need formulate suitable strategies combat scarcity scenario waiting ahead. suggests raising use nearby rivers lessen pressure resources.
