Agricultural cooperative system: management challenges and feasible solutions

Purpose/objective: To describe the managerial challenges agricultural cooperatives face and list leading solutions that can be adopted to overcome such bottlenecks. Design/methodology/approach: A systematic literature review was done, with a research protocol based on “Methodi Ordinatio” (Pagani et al., 2015) select relevant papers. The study covered aspects of management administration agro-industrial cooperatives, social management, risk in agribusiness, strategic new generation cooperative governance system. Findings: Efficient conciliation cooperatives' economic agenda requires professionalization. must adopt series good practices positioning guarantees competitive position, putting it an equal footing private firms. central tools identified are separation between control ownership, alliances partnerships, branding, restricted membership, self-financing numerous other options available. main obstacles conservative environment need update doctrinal principles, impediments modernizing Brazilian management. Originality/value: paper identifies principles hinder modernization cooperatives.
